      Bullish on company's technology, bearish on leadership

      Pros

      Exciting "game-changing" technology; leader in its market space; great customers; beautiful campus; many of the low to mid-level people are solid

      Cons

      Company decisions come from "technologists" or product marketing; has not developed an infratructure (systems) to support growth; upper management lacks a sense of empathy re: customer and employee pain; big gap between technology vision/roadmap and what customers are doing/wanting; new regime is making sweeping changes that don't seem to support a strategy for top line growth (focused on margin; acquiring companies that don't produce immediate revenue impact)

      - Cool technologies - at least back in the days - Flexible and free working environment, hours etc. - Great colleagues - Good internal email communication within team and department

      - A senior management with lack of focus, seemingly driven by individuals intuition - or something. - Very little responsiveness in management for input from workers

      Hoping to return

      Pros

      I thoroughly enjoyed my time at VMware and hope to return in the immediate future. I found the management open, respectful and supportive and loved the flexible work schedule and the emphasis on work/life balance. It is hard not to love being part a company leading the industry in revolutionary technology.

      Cons

      It's a young company, still struggling with efficient and consistant processes and meaningful, standard metrics. Despite the stated policy of trying to move positions out of HQ to save costs, there seems to be a great deal of resistance to doing that within the traditional corporate departments.
