Pros
VMware has been through highs and lows. I believe that the peak of this company was before it went public. Things went downhill from there till the old execs were fired. With the new management coming in from Microsoft, the company has transformed from a "cool" carefree environment with competent engineers to a hardcore business where you are a cog in the wheel of a successful corporation. You decide which one you like better.
Cons
You are a cog in the wheel no matter what your accomplishments were in the past. Unfortunately senior management (which is fairly new) doesn't know the history.
