Pros

Superior environment, great/smart/genuinely kind people, and some true work/life balance. CSN is a great place to start a career. It's also a wonderful company for senior level professionals to teach what they know, learn the latest trends in the e-commerce world and really have a positive impact on a growing business. Also, many of the benefits are very attractive.

Cons

CSN is evolving and dynamic. That's exciting for many of us. But for a person who requires a great deal of structure and someone to tell him/her exactly what to do and when to do it, that individual might need to take a little time to adjust to CSN. Now that CSN has grown well beyond a technology focused "start-up," I'm excited to see how CSN will continue to change the e-retail landscape in the home goods arena and beyond through even more creative marketing and outreach.

Pros

CSN Stores is an excellent place to enter into the working world. The owners are extremely talented and take painstaking efforts to make CSN a great company to work for. There is plenty of advancement potential, even within 12 months for the most motivated employees. The pay matched with the benefits package is on par or better than competing organizations for nearly all levels.

Cons

Due to rapid growth, sometimes it is difficult for employees to adjust to change. This is a normal reaction to organizational and cultural change. I really do not see downsides to working at CSN if you have the right attitude and initiative. There is ample opportunity for advancement, much more so than other companies. It's unfortunate that some employees have not had experience working for other companies to realize this. I personally have worked for a large organization with plenty of structure; it's not fun. Career opportunities are few and far between, "management" is jaded and uninspired; the point being that every company will have a few dissenters along the way.

Pros

I joined CSN Stores a little more than a year ago, and have been extremely impressed with the open communication from the co-founders, Niraj Shah and Steve Conine, as well as all other members of the management team. CSN is a meritocracy, and there is a strong focus on developing talent internally, which makes it a great place to start a career. After working for a few companies that didn't value development as much, this has been a welcome change! Additionally, the company provides a great benefits package and access to tickets for local sporting events (Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins) and shows, as well as quarterly social events so employees from different departments get to know each other better.

Cons

I haven't really encountered many downsides of working at CSN Stores. I guess if you are someone that likes a very rigidly defined role, it may not be the best place for you, as creativity and thinking outside-the-box are highly valued at the company. In terms of compensation, although there are probably places where a new college graduate could make more money, there are definitely trade-offs involved in going to work for large financial or other more formal companies. CSN values a healthy work-life balance, as opposed to working long hours on weeknights and weekends, and the dress code is certainly more relaxed.
