Summer intern program is great

Pros

Great pay, especially for an internship, and they provided us with 2 weeks stay at a hotel/apartment for us to find our own place for the summer. Cool environment. Typical tech campus with lots of busy (mostly) young people. Parking was ample. The surrounding area was nice. The fact that there was both a Fry's and a Rasputin's within a few blocks from the store made this intern real happy after work. They try real hard to have cool activities and things for the interns. I regret not doing more of them. Awesome mentor program-- I learned so much from my time there.

Cons

The place is really busy, which is to be expected. We're encouraged to ask those around us for help, but it there is hardly a good time.

Pros

My pay here is better than any of the offers that I have received recently. The business model is unstoppable due to network effects. The best talent come here. Harvard MBAs are well represented. Upper management is making the site more professional and less like a flea market. I don't have to pay attention to whiny small sellers complaints anymore.

Cons

The stock has not performed well recently. Stock options with strike prices are a thing of the past. We are getting restricted stock instead. There is a silver lining -- stock appreciation isn't as important as it once was. Some uppity new hires come into the company with all of these ideas and think they know better than management. We get them in line soon enough though.

Pros

I work for Paypal, a company owned by Ebay. Paypal has 70M+ active users and it is a challenge to keep the system up that works flawlessly. My main responsibility is to write software using C++ in Unix environment. With more than 6 years of experience in software development, I enjoy doing this and each day I learn something new. Sometimes new features of C++ which I put it in practice. Other times tackling live-issues and debugging code.

Cons

Stressful at times, supporting opeartions till late night, complex code base, maintenance work. Paypal is too process driven company and sometimes it is just frustrating
