I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Dollar General (Columbus, GA) in Oct 2014
Interview
In the interview they told me that I would be applying for the lead sales position and not the Asst. Manager position that I had applied for. They offered me 8.00 hr. I took the pay, I should of pressed for more money. They require you to work hard and at a fast paste. As an employee you are constantly stocking shelves, moving merchandise around, cleaning, ringing up customers, and assisting customers constantly. No down time at all. And they only have 2 people working a very big store. Having a 3rd person would allow more work to be done. It is very hard getting planograms done, price changes, and all the other stuff leads have to do plus clean store. The next job I take a job, I will really think about my salary before I accept it. This has taught me a hard lesson. They really got over on me.

Interview
It was a short simple interview but took WEEKS to even get started.
Basic questions were asked but we never actually talked about pay . Apparently they automatically assumed minimum wage was okay. (7.25)

Interview
Interview scheduled 30 miles from home, lost 1/2 day of work-called 1 hour before interview to reschedule. 2nd round-lost another 1/2 day of work, drove 60 miles roundtrip. Went to interview for Assistant Manager, was told, "I don't know why they advertise that when we don't have any openings". Was offered cashier, then 3rd key position. Manager very nice. I didn't feel as though she had any control over the published open position and was as much a victim as I was. I thanked her-it wasn't her fault. I read reviews like this, knew this was a possibility but wanted to believe these were isolated incidents but I am now convinced that they recruit for "Management" to draw more qualified people, then offer them lower paying jobs with the promise of promotion. I would definitely verify that I was interviewing for the position that I had applied before I attended an interview. I lost 8 hours of pay, the costs of the commute to the interview and all respect for the company.
