Interview
Had two phone interviews, one with the initial recruiter and then two managers. After the interview with managers I got an e-mail from recruiter saying they were moving forward with other candidates who would be a better fit. Didn't give very specific feedback, but it was still an OK interview process - got me to consider a lot of more advanced interview questions.
Thanks for interviewing with us at HubSpot! Sorry it didn't work out this time, but glad to hear you got some solid practice thinking through some challenging questions, we'll have to work at getting you better feedback if it's available and ready, but in the interim, thanks so much for interviewing with us, glad you had a good experience! -Katie
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in May 2016
Interview
The interview process for the "Entry Level Hubspotter" position consisted of 4 stages.
The first stage consisted of doing a "one-way video interview" where I had to answer 6 questions. You get approximately 30 seconds to read and think about the question, and 1-2 minutes to answer.
The second stage was a 30-minute phone interview with a recruiter. I interviewed with Noah Gilman. He asked me a few personality and position related questions (how I heard about HubSpot, why I was interested in this role, etc). He was extremely easy to talk to and the conversation flowed well, and at the end he gave me the opportunity to ask him questions. At the end of the conversation he asked my availability for the following day as he wanted to move me along to the next round and set up phone calls with two managers.
The third stage consisted of two back to back 30-minute phone interviews with managers in the field for which I was applying. I first received a phone call from Robert Ainslie. He asked a combination of personality, behavioral and position/company related questions. Like my conversation with Noah, this one flowed naturally and he made me feel comfortable. The second call was from Nancy Grosvenor. She was also very nice and I felt as if I was talking to a friend who genuinely cared about getting to know me.
A few days later, Noah emailed me to set up a time for a quick chat. When we connected shortly thereafter, he congratulated me on making it to the next and final round of interviews. He then explained that I had to complete an assignment prior to coming in for the interview. The assignment consisted of 5 tasks using the HubSpot software.
When I arrived at the Cambridge location, Noah gave me a tour of the building showing me the different work areas, kitchens, gym, etc. After the tour Noah and I went into an office where we discussed what the rest of the time was about to consist of. I then had three interviews with three different people, each lasting about 30 minutes.
Before I left, I debriefed with Noah and went on my way. The next afternoon I received a phone call from Noah and received an offer to work at HubSpot.
I gained a lot of experience from this lengthy interview process and from meeting so many people from such diverse backgrounds.
Huge congrats on your offer and sincere thanks for writing this up--I would agree that Nancy and Noah are incredible, so delighted you enjoyed getting to know them. When you arrive, please let me know so I can say a proper hello and thank you in person for your thoughtful review and feedback. Thank you again for the write-up and feedback, and welcome to HubSpot if you aren't here already, we are so glad you chose to join our team! -Katie

Interview
First I submitted a resume on-line and a short application. I was contacted by a recruiter (Noah) and asked to submit a video interview consisting of 6 questions, one 30 Min phone interview with my recruiter, two phone interviews with Managers each lasting 30 Min and 3 different In-person interviews with Managers each lasting 30 Min and I also toured both the Cambridge and Portsmouth locations.
The interview process was intense but not at all bad. In fact I really enjoyed the experience and feel that I learned a great deal. I highly recommend that anyone who has one scheduled go in prepared! It was a great experience and I loved that they asked me fun questions. I very much enjoyed working with Noah who was my recruiter. He was happy to answer all of my questions and even offered me some guidance for my in-person interviews.
Today I was notified by Noah that I would not be receiving an offer. It would be a lie to say that I am anything but heartbroken. It was explained that my technical skills were not a good fit. My only wish is that HubSpot saw the same hope in me that I saw in them. It was a high compliment to make it through all of the rounds of interviews and for that I am grateful.
I'm so sorry to hear that it didn't work out--it breaks my heart when candidates really love the company and the feeling is mutual but it doesn't pan out, so I'm deeply sorry to hear that this story doesn't have a happy ending. I'm glad you feel you learned a lot from the experience in spite of the result--if there is anything else our team can learn or do better from your experience, just shoot me a note. Thank you so much for interviewing with our team and for the thoughtful review! Sincerely, Katie
