Pros

I was not stuck behind a desk. I could decide when I was taking my breaks.

Cons

I didn't always get my breaks since other people were goofing off. I was not talked to when I found out I "goofed off" until I one day saw the sheet that my boss used to evaluate the employees. My one co worker took breaks whenever he wanted to. One coworker would talk on the phone whenever he wanted to. I was let go when kids stole beer while he was talking on the phone and not doing his job. I feel it was personal because I didn't want to work late hours and the boss told me I wasn't doing my job. She accepted the fact that I showed up. Big Woo!!!

Pros

The hours it is open means you can schedule shifts to fit your school schedule.

Cons

The district manager refused to let us close when a hurricane was hitting, despite closing all 7-11's around us because our store "was making too many sales" off of the last few people on the roads who needed gas. Hours after the police/emergency planners said that no one should travel on the roads (the winds were scary and dangerous at this point), the district manager kept telling us to stay open. The other employee and I told him (over the phone, since the district mgr was safe at home, of course) that we refused to stay longer and closed the store against his orders. This complete disregard for our safety was the reason I quit.

Pros

Steady job, if you get a good franchisee they will work around your schedule for school, customers are great. The organization does have some competent employees but not many.

Cons

There is no room for growth, I have worked at 7-Eleven for many years while paying for college. I graduated from college and applied for a corporate position within 7-Eleven and was told I do not meet the qualifications..lol. I went from sales associate to store manager and have been with the company for more than 10 years and then graduated with a business degree from a university with a great reputation. Then I applied with the corporate side of 7-Eleven and was told I am not qualified. I have more experience than the Field consultants they send in to tell me " what the new items packet contains". It is sad that they will hire from outside the organization but will not promote from within from a franchisee to a corporate position....especially when you are more than qualified for the position.
