Pros

The benefits. However, pension plans are no longer offered. Relocation allowances are only given to director level and above.

Cons

The SBC culture is outdated. It is not performance driven. Employees are rewarded for showing up and fitting into a mold instead of thier actual performance. The old SBC offices are dark and gloomy. The conditions are something I would expect to see in former Soviet Union. Advancement requires frequent relocation. AT&T cannot decide what city it wants to call home. The Cingular headquarters was relocated from Atlanta, Georgia to San Antonio, Texas. Now the headquarters is being relocated just a few years later to Dallas, Texas.

Pros

From the position I hold there is flexability in working hours.

Cons

Lack of middle managment to tell upper managment the truth about problems at the bottom. Too much red tape to get anything done in IT world. Projects that should take a month take sixmonths, six month projects taking two years. Managment out of touch with the overall process. Upper managment needs to stop listening to the bean counters all the time and see what the real cost to the business is for the decisions they make. It's about more than the numbers on in the ledger.

Pros

The pay is good, depending on what business unit you're in. They have a fairly good view of work/life balance and are respectful of people's life away from work. The people are decent and management is fairly good. It would be better if upper management did communicate better to the rest of us what they are doing instead of giving commands to us just to execute.

Cons

There is some tension between the businesses and headquarters. Sometimes, we get objectives that are very high, maybe unreasonable, to some. There is no real culture at AT*T. It really varies by what region/business unit you're in. They are buying out companies left and right and sometimes they really don't think through how they are going to strategically integrate everything together into one unified front.
