Pros

Amex is a very flexible organization. There is a high error tolerance, i.e. I could take initiative and risk to make mistakes, if it worked: fine, if not, you learn from it, and: fine as well - a learning organization. Amex is very efficiency-driven and often very efficient and focussed. Very open about compensation/salaries, in general very open communication, rather direct style. I enjoyed working there.

Cons

lacking operational controls, efficiency sometimes overrules sound operational risk management. sometimes slow or insufficient to implement regulatory requirements, this lack of sound, effective & working procedures requires heroes to save the organization (see Pros).
