Inexperienced Leadership

Pros

Camunda tries to invest in people training and development. Good sharing of information and transparency.

Cons

The lack of experience in the Sr. Leadership is catching up with the company. While some highly intelligent people are in top roles, they are lacking the experience to guide decision making, manage performance and make the right moves for the company. Lower management and their teams being held to different performance standards and accountability than top leadership. They are eroding morale and trust, firing people by making up vague concerns over "performance" and changing performance standards and goals on the fly however it supports their case to remove people.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We're glad you felt positively about Camunda’s investment in people development, transparency, and internal knowledge sharing. We understand that not everyone will agree with every leadership decision, especially during significant change. Camunda is undergoing a massive transformation. We're seizing a major market opportunity and evolving from a product-led company into a high-performing, AI-driven, go-to-market company. That shift brings challenges, and we don’t shy away from acknowledging them. That’s why we’re actively focused on maturing our leadership practices, prioritizing clarity in performance expectations, and ensuring accountability across all levels. While we may not be the right company for everyone, our mission remains bold: to build a generational company, attract A-players, and empower them to do the best work of their careers. Thanks again for your feedback. We’re listening even when the feedback is tough, and working toward ensuring that Camunda remains a place people are proud to be part of.

Pros

- Generous PTO - Fitness Reimbursement - Benefits

Cons

Pronouns - The HR team consistently and egregiously use incorrect pronouns for colleagues. This is important to highlight, as misgendering someone can have a deeply negative impact on their wellbeing at work. What makes this especially troubling is that the HR team should be setting the standard for inclusive and respectful behaviour. If HR isn't a safe or supportive space, where can employees turn? Cronyism - There is widespread cronyism throughout the organisation. Once a people manager joins, they tend to bring in numerous former colleagues, creating insular, exclusive sub-groups. A notable example is the HR team. This dynamic stifles diversity of thought and often leads to stagnation and bias in decision making. Culture Shift - Camunda has undergone a significant cultural shift. In my experience, the focus on employee wellbeing has diminished considerably. Many employee-focused initiatives (jobs, retreats, social events, etc.) have been cut, expectations and workloads have increased. This has led to burnout and employees feeling anxious about the security of their roles.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your recognition of the benefits, such as PTO and fitness reimbursement. These are just a few ways we aim to support our team’s wellbeing. We recognize and fully agree that using correct pronouns is essential in fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace. Pronouns can indeed be challenging, particularly when they're not widely communicated or known. At Camunda, our culture emphasizes candor precisely so that when mistakes occur, they can be promptly addressed, allowing everyone the opportunity to learn and grow. If there have been instances where pronouns were misused, please reach out directly to our People team, or the person directly—we value clarity and want to correct any misunderstandings immediately. Regarding your concerns about cronyism, we greatly appreciate referrals from current employees, as internal referrals often bring in talented individuals who align well with our values. However, it's important to balance referrals with diversity of thought and experience. We actively strive to maintain this balance and will continue to emphasize openness in our hiring practices. If there are specific concerns or examples you’d like us to address, we encourage you to reach out confidentially to our People team. Lastly, we acknowledge the cultural shifts at Camunda. Many of these changes have been intentional and strategic, designed to ensure Camunda becomes a generational company that can thrive for decades to come, effectively meeting both current and future customer needs. We continually evaluate and evolve our support initiatives to effectively balance operational excellence with compassion, integrity and employee well being. We remain dedicated to fostering an environment of trust and respect, fully understanding that our long-term success depends on the wellbeing and engagement of our entire Camunda community.”

Pros

- Employees and coworkers are the best, Camunda would be nothing without them, their mindset and awesome technical knowledge and ease of collaboration, as well as transparency and human values. It takes time and its really hard to build and replace teams with that level of great people - In my case, my direct manager is also great and really feels like part of the team, we never had any big issue within the team in general, and if we did its a safe place where everyone can talk about it and help each other - When someone in the team needs some time off (let it be a couple of hours to take care of something or a day off to rest) its all good and we are all organized, noone ever pointed fingers for this kind of stuff (this is probably one of the many parts of the work-life balance thing employees are concerned about going away)

Cons

- Removing an optional yearly company gathering that many employees liked for team-building - Imposing instead a yearly company kickoff where everyone must assist, which interferes with employees out-of-work planning, time off and the remote-first value - When I joined the CEO was congratulated for the company approach on transparency, which compared to other companies experiences makes sense. It is definetly a game changer on creating a safe, non-toxic and fair work environment for everyone, thats one of the things that makes Camunda stand out among other companies. Like it has been mentioned in other comments, this looks like its starting to dissapear starting from the SLT, along with the employees that promote and value transparency - We were told that if we want work-life balance we should look elsewhere, and the answer we got to why was that told afterwards, sounded like a vague excuse to not make it sound too bad and turn the conversation around. Just like another good value many Camundi have, recognising mistakes is part of growth and anyone can make them without being judged for it, Im sure at least some Camundi were expecting this to be done by SLT as well, like simply explaining it was a communication mistake that anyone can make and it would have been fine - Companies that start going downhill and have massive employee rotation numbers, multiple SLT replacements/hirings, acquisitions and therefore a big loss of specific and technical company knowledge, they all start with these kind of company practices "hints". Hopefully Camunda wont steer in this direction and it will be just a slip, it can be fixed with proper action and conversations instead of creating a permanent deal out of it In conclusion, it looks like SLT is trying to push their new "values" downstream starting with some little "hints", and they received a major pushback and answer from the employees, because they actually care and promote the previous approach to transparency and work environment that Camunda itself promoted. Employees are doing their best to build that generational company SLT mentions. We have the best employees (no need to copy fancy wording like "A-players") and it can be accomplished, but like a tree, you cannot cut Camunda roots in order to grow, otherwise the tree starves and employees start leaving, uncomfortable working environments appear like other reviews mentioned about some "leader", internal knowledge that takes time to build exits the company... and so on, while other competitors then could take the opportunity and start riding the wave we want In few words, you cannot build a generational company if employees have great values like transparency or work-life balance that are not matched by SLT. These values and roots keep the good mood of Camundi, retention of great employees and increases the quality and quantity of their contributions. Achieving big goals doesnt mean we need to leave the great values that were built by Camundi behind.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review. The pride you take in your team, your manager, and your peers truly resonates and we couldn’t agree more: our people are the heart of Camunda. We also hear your concerns around recent changes, whether that’s shifting priorities, how we handle communication from leadership, or the impact of certain decisions like the retreat. These transitions have not been easy, and we know that even well intentioned changes can sometimes have unintended consequences. We want to support Camundi through change in a way that feels aligned with our values not in conflict with them. It’s something we’ll keep working toward with intention. Thank you again for sharing this.
