Good starting point for young job seekers, limited upside potential later on
Pros
For a german corporation, Commerzbank is quite keen on put high job responsibility to relatively young employees, which makes starting yout career at Commerzbank very interesting. However, from a mid-cycle career (around age 30-40), growth potential starts to be very limited and unsupported. High cost-lowering initiatives lead to relatively young talented people (around age 30+) to seek career growth away from Commerzbank. Working relations within teams is very good and often on very informal (nearly familiar) basis, which makes the working environment very comfortable.
Cons
Main problem is of mentality and culture problem of the bank as a whole. The feeling one receives is that the bank is much more concerned with its internal problems (which are comming in un-limited numbers) vs. a innovative and client oriented approach. Highly proactive employees become as a rule de-motivated given non-existent motivational bonus/success scheme. One gets the feeling that the best employee is the average Joe who does his job from 9-to-5 but doesn't step out of the ranks.
