Pros

Good place to build foundation knowledge. Good work life balance.

Cons

Deeply entrenched executives. Lack enthusiasm to keep others updated on strategy. Lackluster compensation compared to NetApp or HP or Google Cloud. Reseller company, nothing original and lacks the motivation to innovate.

Unfair Processes & Procedures

Pros

If your good at networking, Dell will suit you. It's all about who you know.

Cons

Dell has rolled out performance improvement plans to a large volume of staff with many more to come in the near future. Due to the legacy processes and procedures that are never changed, it's a company that continues to run in the same circles without making progress. Costs are always used to make decisions, no planning goes into ROI with staff. Salaries therefore are not competitive with the market. Experienced individuals are almost non-existent and coaching others in addition to their own roles. Luck or orchestrated results against targets are the only reasons for overachievement.

Great long-term employer

Pros

Compensation is above local market - depending on hard work, networking, patience, etc. Employees are very hard working and good people Dell supports a strong work/life balance - most work from home at least 2 days a week and they support outside activities Overall benefits are strong, but healthcare is slowly declining - excellent 5% 401k match program

Cons

Career advancement is very dependent on networking, connections versus outright job performance. Advancement can be very difficult also due to the significant amount of reorganizations that occur (minimum of 1 to 2 times per year - regardless of the division that you work Training is just focused on minimizing risk for the company, not for employee advancement Leadership more interested in driving their strategy/agenda and many may not listen to employee's recommendations on improvements to the business
