Pros

Global Recognition & Prestige: A resume with TCS is highly respected globally. The Tata brand is synonymous with trust, ethics, and excellence, which opens doors for future career opportunities. Market Leadership: Being the largest IT firm in India and a top global player, TCS works with Fortune 500 companies on cutting-edge projects, giving employees exposure to a high-profile clientele.

Cons

Moderate Salary: Especially for entry-level and mid-level engineers, the salary is often considered lower than the industry standard, particularly when compared to product-based companies or newer startups. Slow Salary Growth: Annual appraisals and hikes can be modest. The percentage increase is often standardized and can feel slow, not always directly reflecting high individual performance. Variable Pay Component: A significant part of the compensation, especially for experienced hires, might be "variable pay," which is dependent on company and individual performance and is not always fully realized.

Pros

Large client base. Talented people, have "cracked the code" on offshoring development and support.

Cons

For anyone used to working in US-based firms, the culture and politics will be difficult to understand and navigate. Internal policies and systems focus on the offshore delivery center model. Roles in the US do not fit into that mold, and obtaining approvals for simple expenses can require weeks and insanely high approval chains given the size of TCS. I needed approval from a global division head (a CEO direct-report) just to pay for a short training course. Missions of different departments are not clearly defined, so overlap and conflict are common.
