Pros

Good place to start your career. Good benefits in India (includes good health insurance for family, PF contribution & other benefits). Goo training and work opportunities.

Cons

Extremely bad managers at the lower level. Ignorant HR & behave as if u r slaves in the company (esp. in the Chennai, India unit). Too much of partiality based on language & state which happens even outside the country also to the extent that the meetings are also carried out in the local language. Promotions & appreciations depend upon ur relation with ur manager & not ur work. South India dominated work culture to the extent it is sometimes known as Telugu/Tamil Consultancy. Makes you work for 14 hrs most of the time without any small benefits like providing transportation or food (forget the overtime pay). And then you are forced to put only 8 hrs in the timesheet. Pay is one of the lowest in the IT industry.

Pros

Large client base. Talented people, have "cracked the code" on offshoring development and support.

Cons

For anyone used to working in US-based firms, the culture and politics will be difficult to understand and navigate. Internal policies and systems focus on the offshore delivery center model. Roles in the US do not fit into that mold, and obtaining approvals for simple expenses can require weeks and insanely high approval chains given the size of TCS. I needed approval from a global division head (a CEO direct-report) just to pay for a short training course. Missions of different departments are not clearly defined, so overlap and conflict are common.
