Pros

Good for ex-forces to jump onto a technology platform without having any experience

Cons

I had to leave the company due to financial reasons which I won’t get into. And my placement fully understood this but FDM could not they refused to pay me my wage that I was owed that month which made me miss out on a direct debit. This all came without giving me any warning. Ex forces trainers at the academy are spot on but some of the other managers are useless. Not helpful and turn up to work smelling of drink because they have been with other clients. Which is 100% unprofessional.

FDM Group Response

I’m pleased that you recognise the opportunity and that you rate the ex-Forces Trainers highly, but I’m sorry to hear the rest of your feedback. FDM invests a significant amount of resources into launching careers and is committed to the success of our people. The commitment from consultants to FDM is to remain with us for two years, which is reiterated during the recruitment process. We have thousands of consultants working for us worldwide and so of course, we understand that circumstances beyond a person’s control happen. On these occasions we take a very collaborative approach between the consultant and client and so your comment that you received no communication sounds very odd. It also concerns me that you feel a recruiter lied to you. We are as transparent as possible throughout the process so if you feel anyone has lied to you, please contact me directly so that I can investigate. I would also welcome the opportunity to discuss your feedback further so that I can personally address any issues in regards to your wages: stewart.sharman@fdmgroup.com

Gets your foot in the door

Pros

FDM offers recent graduates an opportunity to get their foot in the door and provides additional training as well as a support staff

Cons

The pay is a 30% cut of what you would expect from an entry level position in the fields FDM provides consultants for. This is how they make their money but being a year into it now I can't wait to start making a salary aligned with the value I'm adding to the firm I'm consulting for.

Pros

Exposure to technologies during the training period is quite good. Although the training is not great, it was great to be exposed to unix, SQL, VBA and Java. Possibility of going permanent in some big clients

Cons

Very low pay. Lack of support to their consultants. Lack of preparation for specific assignments/placements. Bad company culture - lack of incentives to support other FDM people placed on the client. Inflexible work agreement that can restrict your career significantly - need to be 100% flexible geographically across UK and need to work for 2 years for FDM Bad training - some of the modules stated in the training contract didn't have instructors or minimum materials
