Pros

They can get you into industry jobs

Cons

As much as they can get you in, they can make you and I mean make you do any role even if you wanted to. Couple years ago, there was a role as the assistant to the assistant of the CEO at a bank, a timid female graduate was strong armed into taking that role. The sales staff known as “account managers” and their seniors all look down on the graduates, people are sent to places that they plead to not go to which falls on deaf ears. Consultants are lied to about roles and the locations just to get the sale. Consultants are seen as a product and dehumanised with an emphasis on if you speak up can mean that you are ‘difficult’ and essentially no account manager wants to put you forward for roles. Even account managers are treated poorly by senior managers. No Diversity at CXO level. New personnel required at CXO level to ensure people are treated better and better educated

Pros

Honestly cannot say much, their training is pretty well structured but also was completely obsolete for my placement. And you could definitely learn everything online. Decent pay I guess. Some of the others in my cohort seem to have got really decent jobs/placements out of it.

Cons

After being hand selected for a role (under some unknown circumstances, literally chosen for a role and did not interview with them), I was told the role required another month of training ( this was also completely useless ). I had no say in whether I did or did not want to be placed in this role. Even though my placement had been sorted, I waited another couple of weeks to actually get started. When I did get started at, let's call this company X, I was continuously passed between teams as it was clear they had no idea what I was there for. I was attending every meeting asked, and was asking what needed to be done - but got nothing from it. Especially difficult when you are working remotely. I spoke to FDM and X multiple times about my situation and nothing was done. After months (more than half a year), FDM updated their contract so that they didn't have me in a chokehold anymore and I could leave before servicing 2 years of work. I quit immediately.

Pros

I’d like to say this is a “great stepping stone” into recruitment but it is a joke in comparison to other recruiter roles at different organizations.

Cons

Your manager/leader will not support you. Lack of growth opportunity, severely underpaid. Highly toxic environment where your colleagues are getting involved in your own personal business. When people start walking out the door, that’s when they start to care. You know all those posts on LinkedIn about people leaving managers? This is that type of company. Not only that this is such a lowball opportunity for developers. I can advocate that they can do SO much better elsewhere. An ENTRY level software engineer in the state of VA should be at a MINIMUM making 78-93K. The fact that you’d be willing to sacrifice your worth for 45K then 50k the next year and be tied to a contract is insane. Invest in yourself and know your worth. On top of that, just know you are not a person to them, you are another number. They can delay a class causing your start date to be pushed back and you may have already put in your 2 weeks notice and they will absolutely NOT compensate you for that period of time. Also a very cliquey environment. HR has absolutely ZERO power. I have witnessed and heard so many unfortunate events with ZERO consequences because ELT/LT will cover for their toxic/poor behavior employees. If you’re reading this, take your time and invest in yourself. This job showed me and MANY others that were formerly on the team what we don’t want. And we are all much happier now.
