Pros

1. Job security for 2 years (if they don't kick you out for no justifiable reason) 2. Blue chip clients (if you are lucky

Cons

1. Join FDM if you are really struggling to find another job. 2. Low salary and 2 year contractual bond 3. Be ready to relocate - no flexibility 4. The amount of times you'll get frustrated from cost cutting procedures is not worth the effort. 5. Too much authority on HR assistants. 6. Basic, unpaid training

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. As I’ve mentioned in other responses, we are as transparent as possible when it comes to the terms of our contract. From the day you participate in the assessment centre we explain the salary structure after training, the potential possibility of a relocation, and the training format. We understand it is not a perfect fit for everybody, which is why we give all trainees a two-week period in which they can test out the programme and, if they desire, they can leave without any obligation. I hope that at the very least FDM has helped you launch your career, and we wish you success in your future endeavours. Sheila Flavell

Pros

Good first step on the career ladder in times of limited choice. Access to the big banks. I've heard positive things about the academy culture in Manchester but never been there. Software developer training was pretty good when I did it, and greatly improved when I returned to the academy after a contract ended. Some very good contracts are available if you manage to build rapport with an effective member of the sales team, but this is very challenging due to the way they treat consultants as cattle. Rapid expansion of the business.

Cons

Trainees and mounties on-site are treated like greatly despised children. Constant threats of disciplinary action for nonsensical sleights. Poor pay, below market rate. I was forced out of the company by an aggressive head of sales for having aspirations to move to a particular city. The head of engineering and training at the time denied this was true but did nothing to stop it. In the end, I was offered an ultimatum: accept a contract in London or tender my resignation. Rapid expansion is a double-edged sword. They discard many new recruits if they fail to land a contract. I believe they deliberately set the hiring bar too low to massage the publicity figures.
