Pros
During COVID you could work remotely if you didn't live near a tech hub.
Cons
If you're a software developer looking for a company with a toxic work culture, incompetent managers, and clueless developers being afraid to speak-up, then look no further than Getir. This company is an absolute disaster, with a complete lack of planning, constant uncompensated overtime, deadlines, top-down decision making, no raises, layoffs, nepotism - you name it, they have it. With a hostile work environment that leads to a high turnover rate among the most competent team members who usually leave within a year. The root of the problem lies with the C-level, who have no real vision for the company beyond burning through the investor cash as quickly as possible. Instead of investing in the employees and fostering a healthy work environment, they constantly blame them whenever there's any issue, while paying lip service to being ‘a family’. This creates a culture of fear and mistrust that makes it impossible for the company to work effectively. Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has forced Turkish employees to come to the office, despite the risk of infection. This shows a complete disregard for the health and safety of its employees. And don't get me started how the riders are being treated. Furthermore, the engineering management is completely incompetent, lacking the technical expertise needed to make informed decisions about the products being developed. They push misguided and short-sighted decisions that put unnecessary pressure on the development team, leading to missed deadlines, outages and burnout. The developers themselves are often just as incompetent, afraid to speak up when something is wrong or when they have ideas for improvements. They are more interested in keeping their heads down and not rocking the boat, rather than working collaboratively to solve problems and create the best possible products. The end result is a spaghetti monster of a platform that barely functions and is held together thanks to herculean efforts of a few good teams, including the infrastructure. Then there is a complete lack of planning and coordination between teams. Deadlines are constantly shifting, and developers are left scrambling to complete tasks that should have been addressed weeks or months earlier. This leads to a great deal of frustration and burnout among the development team and more people leaving. Top-down decision-making is the norm, with no input or consideration given to the developers on the ground. All the decisions come from Turkey and are often made without any real understanding of the technical implications or the impact they will have on the tech or team's workload. Did I mention deadlines? To make matters worse, nepotism is alive and well with friends and family members hired and promoted over more qualified candidates. This leads to a great deal of resentment among the team, as they see less competent people being promoted ahead of them. In conclusion, Getir is a nightmare for software developers. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for employment.
