Pros

Big company, secure if you don't make waves.

Cons

I am a CPA and my bosses were all accountants that excelled at creative accounting. I used to object when I saw something that I thought could cause a problem for an audit, but it was pretty clear that my input wasn't wanted. One of my colleagues was fired for taking a hard stand so I thought I would just leave. I get that accounting can be more art than science, but I have a high ethical compass and I needed to live with myself.

Pros

Good exposure; frequent flying opportunity to ASEAN countries. Jobscope is wide- you get to try and understand more on every aspect. Small team; integration of work is easier, clearer and better synergy

Cons

There is no R&R for work trips- schedules are mostly packed from the time you arrive to the time you leave. Many key decisions are reliant on HQ Japan. Involvement in projects can be hindered by language barrier, meetings are in Japanese... Limited opportunity for changes. Pay and bonus is below market average.

Pros

- Most staff here are friendly in general. - Benefits-in-kind are quite standard, but I see bigger companies or MNC offer better terms.

Cons

- Decent starting pay for officer, but not so well pay for manager level, at least I can say for myself. - Salary is not bench-marked to market by referencing to each individual job experiences, qualification, industry exposure, technical field and skills competency level etc. - Lack of opportunity for career progression & regional exposure for local staff. Promotion here is a joke. Peanut increment. - Lack of job transfer opportunity, as in transferring to other Hitachi companies. Maybe it's just this company only. - No formal performance appraisal, close culture, lack of open communication, creating room for bias, unfairness and waiting for problems to occur. - Can see few older managers are quite defensive towards their own rice bowl. - Office location is bad.
