Pros

- Talented and friendly colleagues. - Management are very open to hearing your concerns and genuinely try to improve things - The whole business is very transparent - anything you want to know about how the business works is available to you. - A good place for talented grads

Cons

- Career progress can be slow, it feels like you get stuck at a level. - No matter how much they dress it up, you're building marketing automation software and that can be a bit unrewarding. - Hard to have an impact on a 300+ person engineering org as an engineer - Experience outside of HubSpot doesn't count once you get in the door - that can make the environment a bit frustrating for experienced engineers.

Pros

I've been here a while now and have really enjoyed my time here. Every quarter or year there are new challenges that my coworkers and I are eager to solve. It's fascinating watching the entire company change year over year.

Cons

The culture and daily life is somewhat opinionated (documented well by the Culture Code presentation). There are always tradeoffs and HubSpot is no different.

Not going to lie, I laughed out loud at your opinionated note--you're absolutely right. People here have strong takes on things and it's worth noting and good feedback to be aware of that coming in. The good news is we host open debates on many of those issues, and my hope is that we have strong beliefs loosely held and are open to discussion and data to change our minds as appropriate. I'm delighted you're still loving HubSpot five years plus in, and promise we'll double down on the focus and execution we've been pounding the table about this year. Thanks for all your time and hard work at HubSpot, I'm extremely grateful. -Katie

Pros

Autonomy, Mentorship, Small Teams, Strong leadership, engineering focus, Growing quickly

Cons

None for me. Some might that teams have too much autonomy, that the pace is a bit quick, or that the team is a bit young (average age is 28), but I like it. Also, a small percentage of people have been here for more than 5 years, though those people tend to have a lot of influence.

Thanks for the review and taking the time to share it, I really appreciate it. I like that you callout the autonomy and small teams as a pro for core engineering, and I appreciate that you note a few things that could be drawbacks for folks evaluating HubSpot as candidates. Thanks for writing this up, particularly given that it's such a busy time for the engineering team pre-INBOUND! Sincerely, Katie
