Pros

Nice office with a good location for London.

Cons

Lots of office politics and aggressive culture. Long hours with constant system issues and unpredictable finish time hence no work life balance. Even if you start very early to be able to leave on time this still does not happen. No respect for your plans / life after work because there’s no end. Double standards with senior people leaving early leaving the rest of the team hanging with no support if needed (when facing system issues etc).

Pros

By industry standards the salary and bonus was fairly competitive. I worked with some great people. Office location and quality good in the U.K. Management generally good in Europe.

Cons

Senior management, particularly in the US were self-centred with no genuine interest in the welfare of employees. Guess you should expect that in banking. Bonuses were quite random and often dependent on whether you were popular with senior management. If you were lucky enough to get a sizeable bonus there was effectively a five year lock-in. If you decided to leave after getting a bonus they could claw it back for up to 5 years on a gross basis. Not sure if that’s still the case

Pros

Some of the smartest bankers on the street, tons of deal reps, minimal admin work, nice people, opportunity for fast upward trajectory. Dominates the UMM space, and IMO its not even close. Came out with technical experience far above what most IB analyst / associates have

Cons

my experience through the covid environment was about the most extreme hours you can imagine (often in excess of 120 a week) - this literally meant seeing sunrise multiple times a week for a solid portion of my few years Very hierarchical - often times dont have direct contact with MDs for weeks only for them to discard much of the work that has been done among the lower levels
