Pros

The people are MathWorks greatest asset; very smart, involved and just fun to work with. The perks at the company are excellent. Great office space, excellent amenities like gym and workout classes, unlimited beverages, first-rate onsite cafeteria. Work is challenging and engaging. You need to seek out opportunities but they are there. I really enjoy the people I work with which is key to my job satisfaction.

Cons

The culture can vary from one part of the organization to another so choose carefully. Starting salaries can be lower than other places but over time it works out.

* Can be easy to pigeon-hole oneself technically (especially with MATLAB) * No remote work allowed * One too many levels of management, too many meetings * Micro-management of worker's time and tasks * Unclear vision with respect to web and open-source

Frequently get to work on new technologies and projects. The company culture promotes collaboration and a positive environment. The company also invests in employees by providing excellent technical training.

Cons

There doesn't appear to be a lot of opportunities for advancement. However, since every employee's voice is heard during development, you can contribute greatly without being a manager.
