A very typical, sometimes stressful, consulting job

Pros

- Some very good projects with some big players - You will learn a lot and get a lot responsibility quickly - Some very talented developers who produce some amazing work

Cons

- Very profit/money oriented and this causes a lot of stress as well as bad feeling for both customers and over worked colleagues as the profit margin much higher than the industry standard - Management do not have much in the way of technical knowledge to judge complexity and have a lot of pressure to sell people into dangerous lucrative projects with very high expectations and this often goes very wrong as the experience not yet there with most of the young team - Work life balance poor with too many unofficial hours that get spent scrambling to deliver and lots of internal activities which you need to attend to get ahead or the management will quickly take a dislike to you

Dear Replyer, thank you for sharing your experience on Glassdoor, your feedback is much appreciated. We totally understand that work-life-balance is something in which we can improve and that the consulting life is something that requires some really stressful periods. In Reply all the projects are designed and delivered in collaboration with the customer, following our north-pole values: sharing aims and objectives, with sense of responsibility, professional approach and moral integrity. Thank you for your feedback, this is very useful for us to identify areas of improvement. We recommend you share any concerns with your manager as well. We really wish you the best in your career path in Reply. Have a look at the #LifeAtReply hashtag on Instagram and keep following Reply U on social media.

Pros

Given the lack of meaningful technical projects and low expectations by management, the salary is actually quite descent for a laid back 9 to 5 job. So in case you are just looking for an easy job with a descent salary which has something to do with “IT”, Reply might be an option.

Cons

Reply itself is just a holding company which centrally handles administrative work for its dozens of Reply subsidiaries (e.g. Finance and HR). Most of the employees are in fact working for one of the subsidiaries. Communication between the subsidiaries is practically not existent, even though they advertise the opposite. In fact, subsidiaries are actively working against each other to get a project, or even try to “steal” a project from another subsidiary. If you are not just sitting on the bench right from the start (which is a realistic option), the projects can hardly be described as some kind of meaningful consulting or engineering project. To a large extent, Reply’s strategy is to offer dumping prices, basically forcing companies to choose Reply over other firms just for financial reasons. So, consequently, most of the projects are just cheap outsourcing projects - a.k.a body leasing projects - requiring one to work on mundane tasks for which the customer did not want to burn their own in-house employees. Most of the managers are lacking experience and skills for a management role. Reason being, most of the managers joined Reply right after university and then just climbed the ladder, which mostly means one just has to stay with the company for a pre-defined number of years. Almost none of the managers gained relevant practical experience outside of Reply.
