Pros

Ability to transfer well within organization if you have issues with your direct manager. Company does a very good job balancing life work related issues and should have no problem giving you time off if needed. This is not a company that will make you slave over work. Very nice laid back attitude, friendly staff, most people seem to get along very well. Yearly bonuses were a plus, good performance reviews which are useful for a company this size. SAIC would be a great place to launch a career, as it allows good lateral movement and management is generally helpful if you find yourself unhappy.

Cons

Can get lost in the "big company" feel. Laid back attitude can make it hard to get work done when it needs to be. Employees who underperform are oftentimes not reprimanded -- and can even be rewarded for their laziness. Occasional bickering or "coffee break" type rumors about employees can lead to a poor work environment, especially among coworkers.

Pros

In the engineering areas, you will at least be working with smart people. The lower level managers seem to stay on top of what is going on beneath them. People are eager to help each other on challenging projects. Friendly and relaxed environment most of the time.

Cons

It seems that managers are not often recruited from within. This appeared to limit some growth opportunities, but I really wasn't working there for long enough to be certain of this. There seems to be a wide range in ability between employees in the same group. As a result, some of the stronger workers are constantly pulled around to help other employees with their projects.

Pros

There are opportunities to work on diverse types of projects since they are a contracting company.

Cons

The corporate culture is inconsistent within business units. Promotions, work assignments, additional training are entirely dependent upon who you work for and are not based upon merit nor the needs of the company or client. Also an unwillingness to adopt transparency about information directly concerning employees on a day to day basis. Particularly inequitable in pay for similar positions performing the same job often in cases where a greater level of effort is required.
