Pros

- A nice CEO...A real human. - R&D staff second to none in the CPG industry; VPs are OUTSTANDING - A President that is trying to do what is right, and hold on to the values of SC Johnson

Cons

The reviews which have come before me on this site, sum up nicely many of the issues that are alive and well at SC Johnson. I will try not to be redundant. SC Johnson is not the company of the past 100+ years – nor is it relevant for the future moving forward. SC Johnson is too small to compete with the big boys like Unilever, P&G, etc…and now can’t even compete with agile, smaller disruptive companies. An organization once known for unapparelled, unapologetic, innovation and ingenuity, now thinks an annual reshuffling of the ‘deck chairs’ will solve its systemic issues. - HR is an enabler of an outdated approach to culture which makes NO attempt to learn from other organizations to help make changes for the better. BLM? Work from Home? Old Boys Club? Chief People Officer - What do YOU do? - Passive aggressive workplace – to an extreme. - Fear-based leadership (1950's style); ‘This is due YESTERDAY! I’ll need that deck by the morning!’ You deliver it, and it sits…and sits…and sits some more. - Toxic culture which feeds on ‘gotcha' moments pointing out faults/failures in others as a means of self-promotion. - Pushing work franticly through the system (to see what sticks) appears to be the only 'strategy' members of the C-Suite know exist. This approach is contrary to many other CPG companies that are thriving with new, calculated, strategic innovations on an annual basis. - Risk averse culture; Back in the day, Sam Johnson wore innovation like as a badge of honor. I can’t imagine what he would say today…Sam leaned on the institutional knowledge of the organization and the employees to drive new thinking. - The value of the SC Johnson employee has been diminished to taking orders like lemmings and executing what Leaders (use this term loosely) want done. - Leadership will unnecessarily insert themselves into project teams to show the rest of the organization ‘how it should be done.’ The over-bearing and meddling tact by Leadership reinforces how little they trust their teams - overall lack of respect for employees. - Any feedback from Leadership while they are involved in a project is not constructive – all heavy-handed, at times insulting and many instances, calling into question your expertise. Comical, toxic and passive/aggressive all at the same time.

Pros

This company puts a great effort into safety. The pay allows a good living. The employees of 15 years or so have very good retirement benefits.

Cons

SCJ manufacturing areas have become unpleasant due to very poor management from the top on down. Operators are not given any respect, they are given goals that are not attainable, goals are set by managers that are only out to fill their own goals. There is no consistency between managers, and there is a different manager for almost every production line. HR department is so very disconnected from policies, people have now disregarded policy as it will vary day to day. The company is loosing knowledge at a rapid rate as the good employees don't care to watch it fail any longer.
