Pros

Target has great people, great design, and good product. They have great offices, especially for PDD and marketing. Vendors really go out of their way to develop prototypes and samples to ensure business. There are great travel opportunities for those in certain roles.

Cons

It can be a difficult culture to fit into, if you cannot navigate the political nuance of a group of people who are mainly there to be promoted. There's are plenty of risk averse people to stifle new innovation. There are good people there, but if you don't please or work well with the right people, you will not be successful. If you are able to take opportunities, aggressively stand for your point of view, and talk about how successful you are, you'll have a chance to be paid well and travel the world.

Pros

Benefits are good, flexible schedule, portfolio ready pieces. If you have a great manager you will be able to do very well. Target spares no expense when it comes to travel and talent (illustrators and photographers to hire).

Cons

Lots of bureaucracy, varying degrees of quality when it comes to managers. Quite a few managers seemed to have been promoted to avoid demotion. Lots and lots of layers of management which can create gridlock and conflicting points of view. Leadership seems to be more interested in cult of personality than quality of work when it comes to promotion. To become promoted it basically becomes a middle school presidential campaign, getting your name out there etc...

Pros

Location of headquarters downtown, discount

Cons

Target culture is very fake, the environment is very political, managers focus on younger employees for advancement and lose sight of experienced team members, there are too many middle managers and overall the company is extremely top heavy company with many managers only having 2-3 direct reports. The decision making process is slow and not effective or efficient. Managers do not have any experience and buyers often often managers of various areas with no knowledge or experience or expertise that is needed.
