Pros

Brand name. Good exposure for young professionals. A democratic institution -with democratic processes in place-atleast on paper.

Cons

Too much focus on cutting costs. too beaureaucratic...no growth opportunities.too much of office politics.

Pros

TCS is a global organization - has big aspirations to be "Top 10 by 2010." The culture here is very accommodating. If you need time off to visit family in India or take care of a family member, take it, no questions asked. Leave without pay is also offered, but only to expatriates.

Cons

Too many politics across all directions of the organization. Decisions do not happen in a timely fashion, and if they do happen they take place in a vaccum. Sadly, there is an "us" vs. "them" mentality. It is an unspoken rule that Indian employees receive better treatment than the local hires hired in the US. Internal processes are a mess - it takes employees 4+ weeks to receive expense reimbursements (money that they have already fronted out of their own pockets), payroll department is a myth, benefits administration is disorganized and the performance appraisal process is a nightmare that you just can't wake yourself up from. If I could turn back time, I would have definitely re-considered joining TCS America.

Pros

to learn IT processes and technologies first. To come to client locations outside India for a good experience. TCS gives good training which invloves a holistic view of whole software life cycle. chances of getting assignments abroad is better than any other company. as there are lot of projects with different technology, one can switch from one technology to other with the advance of his career. There are lot of branches in India. So location wise you will not have any constraints. you can take time off depending upon family issues and urgency.For this you will get plenty of support from your managers and HR.

Cons

Package is not good compared to other companies. Promotion takes a long time and there is a lot of partiality done in terms of performance appraisals. Lately promotion policy is not clear. Due to the number of employess, HR to employee ratio has decreased. Performance appraisals are done keeping in mind the project billing. So if you are good but in a small project with limited growth capability, you are bound to get a low rating. Doing account level actvities help in getting a higher rating but you will rarely find time when working in client location. TCS doesn't pay extra hours. So even if you are working your rears of, keep in mind you are going to get the low wage.
