Pros

The main benefit is the flexibility. Career opportunities used to be available, but this doesn't seem to be the case anymore for newer employees

Cons

No skill development; you'll get pigeonholed if you stay too long. I wish I had taken my experience at 5 years and left to go somewhere else, now I feel stuck The new CEO brought in a wave of new bureaucracies which makes the company feel like Office Space where you get 6 different managers nagging you if you forgot something

Pros

A solid global company that is very good for businesses and consumers alike, contributing to a better world. Innovative. Excellent people to work with. Many opportunities for growth, development and promotion. Very diverse. Competitive pay and benefits.

Cons

No company is perfect, but the great ones keep getting better. Onboarding of new acquisitions and their employees could be better. (The pains of growth!). Management training (and/or appointments) in certain departments could be improved. Some large (cross-department, cross-country) project initiatives could also use better management (accountability, communications, etc.). (Again, the pains of growth!). Perhaps these might have been addressed over the last several years.

Bloated management

Pros

The engineers are great and very customer focused.

Cons

The structure at UL is very management heavy. If you have heard of the book "Bullsh*t Jobs" most of the managers are task masters. We go to meetings but ultimately the senior leadership puts in more obstacles for the engineers to get things done. There is a process change every year because management doesn't know how engineers do their job, and think that they know.
