Pros

Great Place for a Career and Federal Retirement

Cons

Once you are in the system and pay plans salary advancement tends to be very slow unless you are able to receive promotion to the next grade. Its competitive but as a federal employee you do receive annual cost of living increases if congress and the president agree. Also at the end of the road federal pensions are inflation adjusted and its one of the few remaining jobs where you even have a pension plan
