Pros

I work with some nice people. 401K match up to 6%.

Cons

Poor pay for production workers. Poor asset management because production is ALWAYS hindered by very poor equipment maintenance, Management seems to believe that the production problems that equipment failure create can be solved by hiring more and more low-quality workers. Maintenance department is ineffective even though they have enough personnel who are paid well. Management seems to believe production workers are the cause of their ineffectiveness (Vestas Blades Brighton is currently 140+ blades behind delivery schedule). As a production worker there is almost no opportunity for advancement. Management has created a situation where by they hire over 60 new hourly employees a month because they lose nearly that many per month. I work with several people who have been at Vestas in their current positions (and are good employees) for more than two years and have yet to receive a job performance review or a pay raise. Poor safety due to low-quality employees being brought in just to maintain a certain headcount then given too little training before they are expected to do dangerous tasks in order to produce product. Vestas Blades Brighton works 12 hour shifts and they require that you switch from day shifts to night shifts every two weeks. It's a horrible schedule and very hard on the mind and body as a person's sleep schedule is never stable. In fact, several months ago (late 2015) an employee fell asleep while driving home after three night shifts in a row and was killed. Management never addressed this tragedy with the employees and the shifts, which everyone knows contributed to this persons death, remain the same. I personally have yet to work a 12 hour shift where I am bust for more than 6 of the 12 hours. I spend as much time being instructed by lead persons and my supervisor to "look busy" as I do actually manufacturing product. So myself and my coworkers wipe down the equipment and sweep the floors for hours at a time. Quality is constantly be redefined. That's because the equipment is constantly in various states of disrepair and therefore the product that comes out of the machines is never of a consistent quality. Vestas deals with this by "moving" the acceptable to quality as much as needed in order to justify not scrapping these large and expensive products. The on-site canteen has very expensive, low-quality food. During night shifts there is no janitorial service and Vestas hires a lot of low-quality, disrespectful and immature people. So the canteen at night is absolutely filthy with food and dirty plates all over the tables, chairs and floors. It's so bad that I have resolved to eat my lunch in my car so I don't have to witness groups of 20 something workers actually having food fights in the canteen then walking away from the mess they create. Management knows this goes on but they chose not to do anything at all about it.
