How the mighty have fallen

Pros

There are still a couple smart talented people trying their hardest to make the best of a bad situation. The products are innovative and solve real problems and the relationship with clients is very strong. The location is great, and so is lunch, but those are not things that make up for the chaos this company is falling into if people don't do something.

Cons

eVision used to be the leader in its field and the staff stood behind the mission and the vision of the company. There was a passion that was felt in the organisation. All that is gone now. Almost all the talent has left due to the lack of direction and input after the acquisition. Sister company acts like they own the place even though the new leadership is never in the office, and barely understands what eVision does. All the negativity about HR is 100% true. They haven't shared any info for at least 3 years, there are no career paths and whatever you want to achieve you have to pull out of the company, instead of being rewarded for hard work. Even now, when many of the good people are leaving, there isn't a peep. HR is aggressive and gossips about everyone. Many of the perks that used to be provided have been stripped, meaning that what little reward you could get, is now not achievable either. The team spirit has pretty much disappeared and it is very sad to see.

Pros

Good benefits. Especially vacation and holidays. If you end up in the right department with the right boss and coworkers you might enjoy your ride there.

Cons

Lack of vision. Inadequate budgets to really drive growth. Immature upper-level management that doesn't respect their employees and seems to enjoy being cruel and condescending. Mid-level management that plays politics and is more concerned with covering their own butts than thinking outside the box every now and then.

Stay away from the Canadian Division.

Pros

There are some good people that work there however they are also seeking to leave the organization. The brand name is good internationally however executive leadership doesn’t view the Canadian division as a growth story.

Cons

I have never seen a level of internal politics at any organization. The Head Office decreed to fire a very good CEO a couple years ago, and instilled a new CEO with only one purpose to cut costs. Growing your career or income is very difficult working for Wolters Kluwer Canada. In fact, if you are able to maintain your job, consider yourself fortunate. Management works under fear. Fear that their own jobs could be gone. So presenting challenging ideas to help the organization is not well received. HR is certainly not independent. Raising concerns only invites the ire of the department becoming defensive. The CEO doesn’t want unwanted attention so there will be creative methods to have your your employment terminated. Here are the facts. Wolters Kluwer Canada used to employ a number of staff in Toronto and Quebec. In Toronto alone, nearly half the floor is now vacant. The VP of Product quit after many years at the company. The previous CEO was fired during the same day the Director of Sales was retiring (how classy). The Director is Marketing quit. The company is in harvesting mode. Little to no growth. I’ve hopefully been able to provide a clear warning of what you will be getting yourself into.
