Good - but the department is everything.

Pros

Can be a really exciting place, people are mostly super smart and the job can be fun and rewarding. Some departments are especially good, with some really strong leaders that push you forward and give you exposure, opportunities and amazing, helpful feedback.

Cons

You have to be careful with the department you join. It can be a totally different experience because zalando is so big, and the same culture is not successfully enforced everywhere - although I reckon they try. Depending on the department, it can be a really toxic environment. There are heads/directors extremely unprepared for leadership roles - as if the only kind of intelligence valued is analytical and that seems to be enough to be a leader. There are many people with zero soft skills in high positions, and that unfortunately affects negatively the culture of entire departments.

Cubic mindset Work council works for nothing Not open to other cultures I was part of a fully European team and treat me like a dumb person for being from other culture non euroean Got set up by the manager when I spoke with the work council and reported racism and xenofobic attitude I was ask in a meeting if there were white people in South America and latam When move to a whole new continent I did not want to realized and reacted when It was too late I was left traumatized and with severed mental issues after this

Great potential. Missed opportunities

Ultra modern, liberal and technologically innovative company. Great product. Huge potential.

Cons

Outdated engineering mindset and practices push world class talent away from Zalando. There's no sense of urgency and things are done soooo slowly so the responsiveness of the company to competition and market conditions is poor. Political. "I'll take care of you and you take care of me" mentality drive good people away. Zalando became a place where people come to get title and experience, and once they do, they move on. Normally within 1-2 years.
