I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Docusign (London, England) in Jul 2020
Interview
The interview with the recruiter was awkward as she started the interview saying that I was probably overqualified for the CSM position and that they didn't have any senior openings at the moment, meaning that she already had a bias against me.
Although I dominated the interview and offered very relevant examples to back my answers, she said she was going to forward the recording of the interview to the hiring manager.
After a couple of weeks I received an automated email saying that my application was rejected. I was asked to complete a form to be recontacted in due course, which obviously never happened
I tried to get in touch with the same recruiter a couple of times when new job reqs came online, but she ghosted me.
All in all, very disappointing experience as they rejected me without giving any reasons and just ignored me afterwards
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
what customer success is for you
how to do ensure adoption
how do you work with sales
Have you ever been on a date and had the time of your life and then got ghosted and wondered how did you miss the signs that the other person wasn't interested? That's how my interview went with DocuSign.
I applied online and received an email from the recruiter a month later. In the email she requested my availability for a candidate intake/screening call. I provided dates and times in their online scheduling system and waited. A few days later the recruiter got back to me with the scheduled time for our call. I am pretty certain that was not one of the dates I provided in the system, but I went ahead with it anyway because I was excited to move forward. It was your typical screening call. The call went well and she said I would be referred to the hiring manager for the next interview. While I waited to confirm my scheduled interview time I sent an email to the recruiter with a question about the interview, plus a follow-up email that went unanswered. (I actually received an email response DURING my interview with the hiring manager).
My interview with the hiring manager was fantastic. In fact, it was one of the best interviews I've had in my entire career. The hiring manager was enthusiastic and praised my responses and the questions I asked. The interview flowed and we had a comfortable rapport. I left the interview very confident that I would be called for the next step in the interview process. Less than 3 hours later I received an auto-generated message that they went with another candidate. My gut reaction was that it must have been an error as I had such a wonderful interview. I sent a follow-up email requesting feedback. It's now been almost a month and I've heard nothing else... so I guess this means my interview didn't go as well as I thought. Or maybe it did go well and there really was someone else who was a better fit for the role.
What I didn't appreciate was the lack of response from the recruiter after our initial call and the auto-generated rejection email. Once you've had a formal interview with a hiring manager, the respectful thing to do is to send an email directly from a person. Since that interview I've seen other roles at DocuSign I'm interested in but am hesitant to apply. Do I want to work for a company that treats their applicants rudely? Or maybe my quick rejection and silence from the recruiter is a sign they don't want me working there. The mixed signals have left a very bad taste.

Interview
Very standard interview process for tech companies. 1. Recruiter Screen, 2. Hiring Manager Interview, 3. Panel Interview with peers and other managers as well as a demo QBR. My recruiter was friendly, though we did have to reschedule a couple of times for the initial screen. I recommend being thorough with your communication with your recruiter throughout the process, for instance I quickly learned that for my individual recruiter, text messaging was the most efficient way to communicate. I also received a system generated email in error during the process. I asked my recruiter as soon as I received it and was quickly alerted to the fact that it was a mistake. I enjoyed the interview process with DocuSign and really felt like my recruiter advocated strongly for me, especially during the negotiation. Though a lot is out of your control, you must be diligent and control what you can during any interview process. I think this approach is part of the reason I had a positive experience.
