I applied online. I interviewed at HubSpot (Boston, MA) in Dec 2016
Interview
The first interview asked you to complete a one way video interview in a very short amount of time. The whole process was very unnatural and was difficult to really convey your opinions and personality through the screen.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Jan 2017
Interview
I applied through an employee referral and interviewed at the Cambridge office.
I have to say, though there were multiple steps to the interview process, the Hubspot recruiting team (shout out to Callie!) was so responsive and helpful along that way that it only enhanced my desire to work for the company even more!
After I submitted my online application I received an email a day later prompting me to complete an interview that was a video recording of me answering the questions that appeared on the screen. I had 1-2 minutes per question to answer, which went by fast, but the best thing you can do is just relax and be yourself! They want to see your personality despite the slightly uncomfortable format since you aren't actually interacting with a person.
I was contacted by Kelsey a couple days later to share my availability that week to arrange a time to speak with Callie. Kelsey was so helpful with arranging all of my interviews and always responded immediately when I emailed her asking for the contact info of people who interviewed me so I could send them thank you notes after each call. (I recommend doing this!)
The call with Callie went great as she was super easy to talk to! Callie asked me questions about my resume, my interests, why I was interested in working for the Hubspot support team, and asked me about experiences I have had working with customers.
The next round was a video call over google hangout where I spoke with a Support Manager (Zach) and did a screen share tech demo with a Product Expert (Jim). Zach and Jim were both so easy to talk to as well and both conversations were very fluid and natural. Nothing throughout this entire process felt forced, which only made me love Hubspot even more! Zach asked me more personality questions. For my demo with Jim, Callie sent me three tasks to complete using the Hubspot software beforehand. The tasks weren't too time consuming, and I recommend using all of the online Hubspot resources if you get stuck. You can pretty much find helpful step by step instructions for any questions or troubleshooting issues you are having. For the third task, Jim had me explain to him how I did it through a role play format where I acted as if I was working in Support and he was a customer calling in for help.
Finally, I went to the office in Cambridge where I met Callie in person and she showed me around! I then had three 30 min interviews with Cait, Matt, and Vinny. Beforehand I was so worried that it would be hard to have three interviews back to back, but it went by so fast and I enjoyed every second I was there. Everyone I met that day was so welcoming and easy going that I couldn't help but feel put at ease and it allowed me to be myself. I think the final interviews were ultimately used as a culture fit test as their culture code is such an important part of Hubspot's values. Ultimately, if you be yourself and are honest about your strengths and weaknesses, you will only increase your likability!
I am so excited to work for such an awesome company and I highly recommend applying!!
This review made my day. I couldn't agree more that you hit the jackpot in getting to work with Callie and Kelsey during your process - they are top notch and I'm so glad they made sure you were prepared and had a great experience. In addition to the amazing crew of managers on the Support team you met with during your interviews, you're about to join a fantastic team - congratulations and welcome to HubSpot! -Becky

Interview
The interview process is a bit lengthy. After getting selected through the stack of resumes, you will be asked to complete a brief, one way, video interview recording. You are asked six questions at random and will have a up to two minutes (depends on the question) to record your response. It felt unnatural and a bit awkward.
The next step is a brief phone interview with a recruiter. I spoke with Holly who was very nice and outgoing, the interview felt more of a conversation and less of an interview. Be prepared to talk about why you want the position.
Next you will have to complete two, 30 minute google hangout sessions with a support manager and technical engineer. You are given 3 separate tasks that you will have to complete within HubSpot's software and asked to explain and walk through why you chose that method and your reasoning behind it.
Thanks for your review - while the outcome wasn't as you hoped, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences. We've heard a lot of feedback about the video interview and Holly is leading the charge to put together some fantastic resources for candidates - stay tuned, and best of luck on your future career endeavors! -Becky
