Pros

Flexible schedule. Vendors support the unit with freebies, company car for personal use. Vendors constantly giving tickets and freebies to the field staff. Good people overall, not a cut throat environment, as the people that have been at 7-Eleven very long know growth is limited.

Cons

Long hours - figure to do a poor job 10 hours a day 5 days a week. To do a good job figure 6 days of 9 hours in the field a week and 10 hours of home prep. 7-11 has gotten very tight. Many of the expenses tied to the job as passed to the field staff, tons of printing at home that isn't reimbursed. $50 a month for a cell is not enough, considering you will put 2000 minutes on it a month just for work. Field consultants are expected to get franchisees to do things that they don't want to do, and when they don't work, you still have to get them to do the next thing. Franchisee community is treated poorly and taxed when times are tough. Field consultants are responsible for everything that happens in their stores but have no control over the store staff and what they do. They expect the FC to influence a franchisee to spend more on labor, hire better staff, spend more on training, with little supporting evidence as to why. Franchisees see this as 7-Eleven wanting to spend the franchisees money, to make them more money for 7-Eleven. Of course more staffing and better training will lead to better stores, but franchisees can't keep good employees very long at 7.50 a hour and if they pay more the go broke and have to pick up second jobs. Overall, the Field consultant job is tough to be great at. It is possible but don't expect to have any life at all.

Pros

It's a source of income

Cons

What is presented to you by the HR recruiter about the position does not match the actual job you were hired for. I realize that this is the situation over all corporate America but when you are told you will be supporting at the most 7 executives and you end up supporting 38 executives and a team of 250 people on top of that they are taking advantage of their employees. The view of the EA staff over all is that it is too heavy. All of the EA's individually support more than a dozen high level executives and their teams, these range from 150 people to 500 and does not include thousands of contractors. EA's are hourly employees and the wage is way below average. No sick time, no short term medical leave (you have to pay extra for this if you want it which is very expensive), you do not start earning vacation until after you have been employed with them for 6 months and when you do it is not a lot of vacation time and it is a slow process to earn, no floating holidays, no personal days, no bonus, and no raises. There is no incentive to stay at this company long term when many other corporations have very competitive benefits and compensation packages. All of their systems and processes are antiquated and in seriously bad shape. It is painfully slow to get anything accomplished due to this. They say they are running a tight ship and I understand this mentality but when you chose this approach and it affects efficiency and productivity in such a negative way that it impacts your business and retention of good employees you should re-evaluate your methods. The company overall has a very low level of professionalism and this is reflected internally and externally. Every single person I have met is mentally drained and over worked.

Pros

Free car - which you actually pay $150 a month for ... but the gas is free Decent salary - but not commensurate with knowledge, experience or tenure.

Cons

Micro-managing bosses, who's priorities change with the wind. No one in upper management has the back-bone to stand-up and say "hey - why are we doing this? It's stupid." Upper management a bunch of "yes-men" that robotically follow orders of an Executive Committee that is so far removed from daily store operations - its frightening. No quality of life - no balance between home and work. 7-11 is a 24 hour operation and you will be required to routinely work nights and weekends. If you have kids and want a structured schedule - forget it. Morons that can't handle the Field Consultant position are quickly promoted - I assume so they don't have to fire them and hurt anyone's feelings.
