Pros

Very good corporate culture. Sacred Heart (A part of Ascension) focused on the mission of providing very good health care to both paying and charity customers. This made all employees feel like they were contributing to to betterment of society. Also, there were many moral boosting strategies. For example: free lunches for holidays, birthday cards from the hospital, and special events sponsored by the hospital.

Cons

The Senior Leadership seems very disconnected from the rest of the staff. Some do make and effort to attend events, but most act as if they are too busy to attend things like employee forums and town hall meetings. In addition the communication among them is limited. It seems as if they all want to be the one person who "knows everything" so they keep things a secret to the detriment of the Health System.

Pros

Lives up to their core values. 100,000 reasons---people who collaborate on caring out its mission to serve patients, community as a ministry. Management, clinical staff and executives top notch and leaders in the industry.

Cons

Its a large national organization and the structures needed to manage 100 hospitals and facilities across the US. With $11 Billion in revenues it would be a "Fortune 500" company if it was a NYSE or for profit firm perhaps #5 in healthcare companies, that brings slower decision making and some expected red tape. Needs to continue building diversity into its long term plans for senior management team local, regionally and nationally.
