Pros

Remote home office, name recognition in marketplace; strong products

Cons

long hours; unrealistic quotas; if you make your quota one semester, you'll be penalized the next by a huge bump; payment plan includes recoverable draw; internal resources have been significantly cut back. You're asked to do more with less.

Pros

There are a wide range of jobs available at Dell and most managers provide employees with the flexibility to try new things. Moving up can be difficult but Dell is a pretty good place to gain broad experience. Most employees stay at Dell (in spite of the downsides) because Austin is a great city.

Cons

Incompetent and unethical senior management and board of directors. Michael's last name is on the building and he runs the company like a dictatorship. He tells his "leaders" what to do, they tell their managers what to do, and so on. There is zero tolerance for anyone to question or challenge anything Michael wants to do. See the long list of departed executives who have tried to suggest improving the company. This culture impacts the entire company -- if you are not a "yes man" you will be miserable working at Dell. I've never met an employee who wants to stay at Dell for the long run.

Pros

Dell has a good view on work/life balance and they do a good job of motivating people to achieve their goals. They consistently bring in vendors to display new products and their training programs are outstanding. I believe they care about their employees more so than any other company I have worked at.

Cons

In any sales position, you will be required to hit a quota. Sometimes, Dell will set quotas higher than they should probably be. If you don't hit your quota at Dell, you really won't make any money. Also, there are times when it can be a very stressful environment. Some people won't enjoy working in a call center environment so that would be another thing to consider.
