Pros

In this economy, Dollar General is doing very well and is growing. They are opening new stores and creating new jobs.

Cons

The company is extremely cheap. The leadership likes to say they are cost effective, not cheap. But they cut costs so much quality suffers. It is a work-a-holic culture. They work the employees into the ground and don't pay them very well. They are making so much profit but they keep cutting anywhere they can any many places they shouldn't. The leadership increased the amount the employees have to pay for benefits and patted themselves on the back for it so now KKR can make even more profits.

Pros

Cant think of one besides i like working with the public and this is a job with public.

Cons

Where does one start? First, so much goes on, management makes up their own ideas, whether company policy or not, and says that's how it is. This company throws away more food, and clothing then any place i have ever seen!! The way things are today, you would think the company would let the employees have a chance to buy the merchandise even if for a quarter, and then offer it to the public for a quarter, they would not only be helping so many people who are in a bad way, but there wouldn't be dumpsters full of food and perfectly good clothes. Next when a district manager comes to a store, they shouldn't announce that they are coming. The should just show up and really get a chance to see whats going on. People in security should also make the rounds more than twice a year and they also should not be announced. There are shady things that go on with management but as long as your store sales are up, the higher ups wont bother you. You can work your butt off, come in every time someone else doesn't show up, be offered an actual position where you may think you'll learn something, but as soon a another teenybopper comes along, that opportunity. I have owned retail stores before, and if a quarter of what goes on in these store went on in my stores for one minute, every one there would of been fired in a heart beat. They leave people alone in stores for hours on end, which is a HUGE safety concern, then while your alone, they demand you take your 1/2 hour to an hour break, while there is a truck there, how can any one person be expected to do all that. They really are clueless as to what goes on at the store level. I cant even explain how poorly this company is run. I could go on for days and days. I have to be honest, this is the worst company i have ever worked for and Ive been in retail for 30 years!!!! By the way, the location I have given is not even close to where the actual store is that I work in.
