Pros

If you enjoy helping people and want to advance in a company Dollar General is the place for you. You have to be willing to learn and work hard. If you want a sit down job this is not the place for you, but if you can show your value in whatever job you do, you can advance.

Cons

The customers are our greatest resource so we must remember the customer is always right. This is hard at times when you get a grumpy customer. My goal is to have Mr. or Ms. customer smiling before they leave the store. If not a smile we hope they liked the service they got. The personality conflicts should not keep a person from advancing, but often they do.

Pros

Good benefits, insurance + 401k. Given the proper drive and ability to follow DG guidelines and apply yourself to them, promotions/raises can be acheived fairly quickly.

Cons

Unfortunately, there's lots of stress imposed on all employees. Lack of communication between senior management members and lower management/sales associates is also a serious issue, and many managers seem to not want to stick to DG guidelines and the SOP.
