Pros

Great advancement potential and greater than average pay scale. A long way from corporate suffocation, store side is the way to work with this company. Although training and policy is constantly a challenge, I blame it on corporate and not stores. Hard work and a good work ethic will get you a long way with this company.

Cons

I worked in the Corporate environment with Lowe's for a short while and found the excessive micro-management of every aspect of employees work was counterproductive and defeating for motivation. It seems that a great company has allowed a boardroom to determine policy to an extent that they cannot imagine the stress placed on the employees that actually do the work. Between to massively confusing software (s) (plural) that are required to perform jobs, the multiple steps required to complete a project and finding anyone that can actually answer a question without having to ask someone else, they definitely need to streamline the whole system to make it more user friendly to the employee as well as the customer. Super frustration with this area. I think if they can get this straightened out then the other problems that are affected will work themselves out. this applies to corporate as will as retail. The constant changing schedule makes in insane to have a life outside of work.

Pros

Lowe's is a stable retail company to work for. They offer promotional opportunities for sales oriented, hard working associates that can work in a team environment, display good customer service stills and good time and attentance. They have good benefits for part time and full time associates.

Cons

As with most retail establishments you are ususally required to work various shifts which make it hard on your family time. Although they do offer benefits for associates they are not as good as could be. Insurance for part time associates is hardly working taking and the insurance for full time associates is getting worse each year. Their mentoring and training programs for internal associates really need to be given more attention. This would improve the quality of staff by making them ready for the next step in their career with Lowe's thus improving moral - which in turn promotes better customer service and thus helping ensure a solid bottom line for the company! The pay rate needs a little attention and this would improve tenure.

Pros

If you can get into the right group (in my experience, Lowes.com), the culture is extremely laid back and the work life balance is great. There is a lot of opportunity for upward and lateral mobility, allowing for some great experiences. Compensation is decent, especially considering the work life balance and the overall atmosphere. After working at a small company, the corporate office itself has some great perks: onsite pharmacy, coffee shop, cafeterias (including some external food vendors). Bonuses on .com are also traditionally solid.

Cons

Vacation/holiday time is very limited (expect 2-3 weeks vacation) with only 2 set company wide holidays. In my experience, this has been made up for with the work life balance... but something to consider in a less flexible setting for sure. Parts of the company can be very old school, stuck in a very traditional mindset that can be annoying for some. Related to the traditional mindset, I've worked in one group that was very religious (prayed at lunch if we went out as a team)... which I think could be a little uncomfortable.
