Pros

Having worked there since a long time, some of the colleagues and co-workers i met were simply incredible and shaped my career positively.

Cons

- the absolute worst middle-management that i have ever seen. - The amount of politics that happens at the middle management level on the Tech side of the company, is honestly mind-boggling. Most do not care about what they are building and are too happy to just pick up a pay-check. - things that should take 2-4 weeks to build-test-deploy, took 8-12 months to implement, due to software architects acting as gatekeepers, who have limited knowledge of software/system design and architecture, due to their limited exposures to tech outside the company. Most of them spent their entire lives there and Riverty (formerly Arvato Financial Services) was their first job. - no prospect of either horizontally or vertically career movement in the corporate/tech ladder due to middle management being very comfortable where they are, despite severely underperfoming. There are no roles beyond Software Architect, if one wants to continue in tech without moving into management. - Hikes and promotions were an uphill battle, even if you outperformed everyone else. In the past few years, quite a few of the good senior/architect level devs who were qualified to take the company forward have jumped ship and moved onto companies where their skills will be better valued.

Dear Former Head of Software Development, Thank you for dedicating a significant part of your career to Riverty and for taking the time to share your experience. Your long tenure with us and the positive relationships you've formed with colleagues speak volumes about the community aspect of our workplace, which we highly value. However, it's disheartening to read about your frustrations, particularly regarding middle management and the culture within the tech department. We aim to foster an environment where passion for technology drives innovation and efficiency, and it seems we have areas that require significant improvement. The concerns you've outlined regarding the operational inefficiencies, lack of enthusiasm for technological advancement, and barriers to career progression are serious. We recognize that fostering a culture of continuous learning, open communication, and effective leadership is crucial for our growth and the satisfaction of our team members. Your feedback is a stark reminder that we must evaluate and address these issues to not only attract but retain talent passionate about making meaningful contributions to the tech industry. While we regret that your experience did not meet your expectations, we are grateful for the insights you've provided. They are invaluable as we strive to improve our work environment and ensure Riverty is a place where technology professionals can thrive and feel valued. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors and hope you continue to make significant impacts in the tech industry. Best regards, Martin Employer Branding

Pros

* Office snacks. * For a teen boy the gender and culture insensitive welcome swag might be useful.

Cons

*Low morale. * Overworking is expected. Burnout is acknowledged and dismissed. * Roles are heavily misrepresented during the interview phase; one may never end up working on the product they applied and interviewed to work on. * 80’s style management privileged over modern leadership (sink or swim attitude with strategically leveraged “positive” and “negative” feedback instead of consistent, constructive dialog or input). * Little thought leadership in Product to learn from; e.g. building company “value” at client’s detriment (not just expense) is rewarded with bonuses. For multiple products or services there is no documented strategy or goals. * Management personnel are candid that colleagues with more traumatizing migration stories are more likely to tolerate poor working conditions at Riverty and “succeed.” * HR diligently closes multiple positions when a team hires one person. Under-hiring across the company precipitates hostile interactions between teams as colleagues protect artificially limited resources. * Dismal onboarding; some canned videos but no structure, little material. No documentation for most products/services. * Gossiping is normalized (1:1 or platform-wide). Senior people share deeply personal details about colleagues unprompted, make inappropriate suggestions about neurodivergence, aptitude, and more. * It was clarified - with HR endorsement - that 1 person should fill 3 roles in one team (i.e. perform equivalent 120 hrs of work per week). * At best “Diversity and Inclusion” is shameless self-promotion without substance, at worst it is dangerously exploitative.

Dear former Product Owner, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your experience at Riverty. I genuinely regret hearing about the issues you've outlined, and I want to address them sincerely. Firstly, it's concerning to learn about your perceptions related to the management and overall working environment. We value every team member and are committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels safe, seen, heard and respected. The discrepancies between role expectations set during interviews and the actual role are concerning, and we will certainly review our recruitment and onboarding processes to ensure clarity and transparency. We aim for our colleagues to have the resources they need to thrive, and it seems we fell short in your case. Regarding your comments on diversity, inclusion, and equity, they are deeply unsettling. We're fully dedicated to these values, and it's evident that we need to take a closer look at our actions, especially in leadership roles, to ensure we're genuinely walking the talk. Your feedback about HR practices and their interaction with the teams is alarming. It's essential for us to ensure that all our teams, including HR, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. We'll delve deeper into this matter and implement necessary changes to ensure that everyone at Riverty feels valued and respected. Lastly, we are sorry to hear about the issues you’ve mentioned regarding workload expectations. We firmly believe in work-life balance, and we'll reassess our current practices to guarantee this balance for all employees. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, as difficult as it is to read. It provides a crucial perspective that will guide our steps forward, helping to foster a healthier, more inclusive, and supportive workplace for all our team members. Warm regards, Martin Employer Branding

Pros
