Pretty good so far. Have worked here for less than a month

Pros

The retail hourly pay seems reasonable compared to the State of New York minimum hourly income. Surprised that benefits are offered to part-time employees. Of course, you have to pay into the benefit system.

Cons

Supervisors have been great. However, cashiers have to learn the job with real customers without any real formal training. The cashiers are on a learn as you go basis with minimum training.

Pros

Coming from Home Depot to Lowe's its a much relaing atmosphere. Lowe's shows how much they truly care for there employees and not just there stock options. Great Matrix for rotating hours certain shifts each week, not too flip flopping like Home Depot. Great training, great spiffs on products you sell as long as your certified/trained to sell them. The company looked out for me and my new family when need be. Pay is great for retail and experience will last a lifetime not only in the work field, but in your personal life.

Cons

It's retail so yes your gonna have to deal with angry customers. Strange hours, last minute changes to schedule if needed or to taylate to cover customer overflow. Only an hour for lunch and by the time you clock out and get outside your time is already trickling down. As far as I know you still can not smoke on premise. I was actually asked if I smoked during my 1st interview with them. Another associate aid the HR refused to hire someone b/c they lit up after the interview in the parking lot.

Pros

Pay was somewhat decent. I was paid 14 dollars an hour. Which wasn’t that great. But could be worse

Cons

A lot of the time, I was the only cashier inside, besides lumber. Customer would often complain to me when there was a rush and i wasn’t able to check them all out fast enough. There would long lines and customers would sometimes yell and get impatient. Especially if I was checking out a large furniture order. The military discount was the worst. Because I was the only cashier, often times people had to use the self check out machines, and most people forgot/didn’t have a Lowe’s card. They couldn’t apply the military discount onto their purchase and so sometimes I had to start over and ring up again my own machine. Which caused the line, to become longer and people grew impatient. The Lowe’s credit card was absolutely horrible. They tried to get us sell those as much as possible. It was annoying and inconvenient. Being a woman here, was often uncomfortable. I often dealt with unwanted flirting and sometimes touching, not just from customers but from the other staff as well.
